Executive Vice President's Column - August 2010

President Dameron-Drew writes in his column about the “Summer Doldrums?” Here at BOMA Silicon Valley we say: “What Summer Doldrums?

While many organizations go into hibernation for the summer, we continue with an energetic effort in providing our members with a selection of important educational and luncheon programs.

For instance, this past August 5th we had 104 registrants for our lunch on Day Cleaning and other energy saving opportunities presented by a panel of 6 industry leaders. Prior to the luncheon we had a successful Advanced Blueprint Reading Seminar.

This month our committees will be developing their 2011 program budgets and the activities that will be contained in them.  You have a very dedicated group of committee leaders, but we do not have a sufficient number of their fellow Principal members contributing to their efforts!

Currently, we have openings in our Education, Membership, Emerging Leaders in Commercial Real Estate, and Energy and Sustainable Management Committees for both Principal member leadership and involvement.

Our Associate Members have been terrific in being involved in these committees, but remember that BOMA was organized for the needs of the owners and managers of commercial real estate. For us to be successful and more effective we need Principal members to contribute to the committee program planning process.

Here is the link to the committees with the names of the current chairs. Consider reaching out to them. I know they will appreciate it!

We are being confronted with the continuing economic doldrums more than the summer doldrums. This is affecting BOMAS nationwide, and we need to overcome this challenge for this BOMA to have the adequately needed resources to provide quality services for our members.

So, in July, we launched our annual 60% membership drive under the enthusiastic and dynamic leadership of our two newest Membership Committee co-chairs, Jessica Henderson (LBA Realty) and Peter Jeziorske (Sares Regis Group).  As was announced at our August member luncheon, any member who provides the name of a potential Principal member receives a $10 Starbuck’s gift card (Courtesy of LBA Realty).

Accompanying this column is the referral form. Just fill it in and email to either Jessica: jhenderson@LBARealty.com or Peter: peterj@srgnc.com and you too could be sipping a cool coffee at Starbucks, courtesy of BOMA Silicon Valley!

Looking forward to a successful 2010 -2011 program year!

Robert Jacobvitz
Executive Vice President
