President's Message

For the past year it has been my privilege to serve as your local President for BOMA Silicon Valley. As I reflect back on this year, I am incredibly proud of our many meaningful accomplishments as an organization. Our BOMA-SV Board of Directors and Committees have worked tirelessly to accomplish our goals set forth in our Strategic Long Range Plan. Our staff, Executive Director Sharon Fredlund and Office Administrator Alvin Wong have delivered invaluable guidance and support to ensure the success of our many endeavors, and I could not be more grateful for their unfailing efforts. As Olga Ornelas prepares to take the helm as our 2017 President, I am filled with hope and confidence for our continued success next year, and in the years to come.

It has been an exciting and eventful year with many changes. Our quarterly luncheons were met with increased attendance as we moved from monthly to quarterly programs and included attendance as a benefit of membership. We also enjoyed the new venue for our Associates Night Trade Show at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Though there were many changes, we continued to honor our traditions including holding our 28th Annual Roof Walk, the Sherie Dunn Memorial Golf Tournament, Commercial Real Estate Awards, as well as our recent Share Your Holiday event.

Our Government Affairs Committee and members of our Board of Directors attended BOMA conferences in Washington DC this year, where we were honored with the opportunity to meet with Senators and Congressmen to review legislative issues and communicate our issues in a unified fashion. Advocacy is an incredible benefit of BOMA membership, and the results of our combined efforts translate directly into cost savings to commercial real estate owners and tenants.

We have enjoyed a thriving Silicon Valley economy with low unemployment and strong commercial real estate activity over the past year. BOMA membership and involvement soars during the good years. The educational offerings available through BOMA can also help you to build your skills and increase your value in the workplace, which become even more essential through the inevitable lean years. I urge you to consider pursuing an RPA or FMA designation, and to participate in our informative and relevant workshops and seminars. The knowledge that I have gained through my involvement in BOMA over the past several years has been instrumental in my career.

Thank you to each of our members for your support, enthusiasm, and commitment to our BOMA Silicon Valley association.  I certainly hope that you will join me in renewing your membership as we continue in our mission to represent and promote the interests of the Silicon Valley commercial real estate industry through leadership, advocacy, education, professional development and cultivation of relationships. Season's greetings to you and your families for a memorable holiday season with best wishes in the New Year!

2016…a Great BOMA Year!

BOMA members and colleagues have shared an incredible year filled with networking, professional development, and industry events.

This issue of Corridors is filled with pictures of our year, capped with our final 2016 event, Share Your Holiday.  BOMA helped to make the end of the year brighter for 109 kids and their families.  A tremendous way to end a great year!
